Scottish Dance
Join the fun. You don't have to be Scottish, wear a kilt or even speak English to enjoy this unique exercise. You'll meet new people and make new friends - both at home and away. There are Scottish Country dance groups from Aberdeen to Tokyo with classes, parties and balls open to all.

No partner is needed so come alone or bring a friend. Classes are held Friday evenings at 7:00 pm in Jones Auditorium, 5th floor.

We have live music. Beginners are always welcome, as different levels are taught by serveral teachers. Country dancing is a great way to laugh your way into the fall and forget the stresses of the work week. No reservations are necessary; just bring comfortable clothes, soft-soled shoes and $7.

The skirl of the bagpipes and the bowing of a fiddle announce the beginning of the graceful, courtly, regal opening to a Scottish Country dance. The Highland Fling, a sailor's hornpipe, a stately strathspey and a reel danced with wild abandon are all part of the repertoire of the Scottish ballroom.

The Cameron Scottish Dancers, headed by Jack Cole, have been a part of the FAPC community since October 1992. Dance classes are held on Friday evenings from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm from mid-September to mid-June. Classes are available at beginner and experienced levels and new dancers are welcome to join the group at any time. Classes and parties feature live music and our musicians are an integral part of our program.

This social group ministers to its members in a welcoming environment. People can feel comfortable attending classes and special events without having a partner; in fact, it is considered bad manners for couples to dance exclusively together at a Scottish dance event. Participants also will soon find themselves members of a larger organization, The Royal Scottish County Dance Society, through which they can make friends all over the world. Imagine traveling to Atlanta, London, or Tokyo (yes, Tokyo) and having a group of local people welcoming you into their social circle. Fee for the regular Friday evening events is $7 ($8 for party evenings.) The Couples Club Burns Supper in January will include some audience participation dances. You can get a head start by joining us on Friday nights.

You don't need to know anything about Scottish dance or music. We will teach you everything you need to know to start dancing. We offer classes at two levels - beginner and intermediate. The criteria for the beginner class are the ability to walk through the door and the ability to count to 8. You should bring soft shoes (tennis shoes, ballet slippers, etc.) and wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. New dancers welcome anytime.

Dancing is a great way to relax and to energize yourself at the end of a busy week. Prepare to "praise him with the ... dance" (Psalm 150).
