Scott Black Johnston

The Rev. Dr. Scott Black JohnstonThe Rev. Dr. Scott Black Johnston came to FAPC in 2008 having previously served as the Senior Pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Atlanta. Prior to that, Scott was a member of the faculty at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary where he taught preaching and worship. Scott holds a Master of Divinity degree from Yale Divinity School and a Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary. He has co-authored one book, Theology for Preaching: Authority, Truth and Knowledge of God in a Postmodern Ethos, (Abingdon Press, 1997); has numerous other published articles, sermons, and chapters in books. Scott is a frequent preacher on Day One Radio (formerly The Protestant Hour) and at various church conferences around the country. He and his wife Amy, a nurse practitioner, have been married for 17 years and are the parents of Izzy (9) and Ollie (5). In his free time, Scott enjoys roaming Central Park with Amy, reading comic books (mostly super heroes), and laughing at his children’s antics. Scott says, "Here in worship each week, I look out at a diverse collection of Christians who refuse to check their brains at the church door, and, at the same time, who have not “given in”—not to skepticism or cynicism. They walk into this old, sacred place with eager minds and hungry spirits—yearning to engage their faith with rigor, expecting to hear a Word; and intending to make a difference in the world. It is a challenge and an incredible blessing to serve with such people."
