Ushers
and Greeters work to maintain the quality of the worship atmosphere and
the flow of the worship service by providing manpower for leadership,
service and assistance to the ministers and congregation. This is the
Church's largest volunteer organization, and it provides many opportunities
for leadership, service, and hospitality. Ushers/Greeters serve a minimum
of once every five weeks (on one of five teams), or they may be assigned
to a floater team (number six) for special events only. Teams meet briefly
before serving, and they meet as an entire group two to four times a year
for special breakfasts or for training sessions. Meetings are held in
Bonnell Hall or the Chapel. An annual Ushers/Greeters meeting is held
two weeks before Palm Sunday and is open to all who would like to learn
about the group's role within The Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church. The
Ushers/Greeters need reliable, conscientious, energetic, caring and dedicated
people. "Being on an Usher/Greeter team is both an opportunity
and an obligation," said Virginia Cutchin. "An opportunity to serve
God by serving His people, and an obligation to learn how to listen to
God, so we can be sure that we are providing the right kind of service
- God's service." There are no dues or fees.
