We, the FAPC Committee on Homelessness, will serve Christ, whom we see in each person, by befriending the homeless, connecting them to needed resources, and working with others who seek to end homelessness.Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City sits at the intersection of wealth and poverty, where some sleep in the lap of luxury only yards away from those who rest their heads on cardboard and concrete each night.
FAPC seeks to share God’s love and compassion with all of God’s creation. FAPC’s Committee on Homelessness specifically focuses on alleviating homelessness, a condition contrary to God’s desire for God’s children.
If you are tired of seeing people sleep on our city’s streets, please join us as we seek to make a difference, one life at a time!
There are many ways to get involved. Bring your own gifts and interests, and we will gladly invest your talents toward bringing hope to those who desperately need it.
Some of our work and anticipated activities includes…
- Annual Christmas, Easter and summer gatherings for the homeless
- Advocacy at the local, state and national levels
- Worship services on the steps
- Welcome home gift baskets
- Reaching out to homeless families
- Befriending those who sleep on our steps each evening
- Serving coffee each morning on the steps
As part of a coalition of faith-based organizations, this group also advocates for the creation of affordable housing. If you are interested in advancing public policy on housing and homelessness, or in representing FAPC before related organizations, we encourage you to become involved.
