Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church volunteers serve a noon-time meal on the second Sunday of each month to more than 200 seniors at the Woodstock Senior Center, 127 W. 43rd St. (between Sixth and Seventh Avenues). FAPC volunteers also help staff Project FIND's full course Thanksgiving dinner -- complete with music and dancing.
Project FIND was started in 1969, a continuation of a federally funded program to care for the elderly whose lives were disrupted by the development of the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Project FIND (serving the Friendless, Isolated, Needy and Disabled) operates five senior centers that provide older adults on the West Side with support and services to help them live independently.
Patient and flexible volunteers are always needed. On the second Sunday of each month, you may either journey to the Woodstock Senior Center with other FAPC volunteers following the 9:30 am worship service, or meet up with your fellow volunteers on the second floor of the senior center.
