Apartheid and Anti-Semitism: A Conversation Between Two Words
This second event in our series on Israel and Palestine gives us an opportunity to hear from individuals who are deeply engaged on either side of the conflict. This discussion will be presented as a webinar.
Our panelists include:
- The Rev. Dr. Fahed Abu-Akel, a former moderator of the Presbyterian Church (USA) General Assembly and a retired Presbyterian pastor. Born to Christian Palestinian parents in Kafr Yasif, in the Galilee, he is involved with the Palestinian Christian Alliance for Peace.
- Peter Beinart, professor of journalism and political science at the City University of New York. He is also the editor at large of Jewish Currents, a nonresident fellow at the Foundation for Middle East Peace and a CNN political commentator.
- Dr. Elana Stein Hain, senior fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America at Columbia University. A widely regarded teacher and scholar, Dr. Hain seeks to bring rabbinic thought into conversation with contemporary life.
- The Rev. Ron Shive, former chair of the Middle East Study Committee of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and a recently retired Presbyterian pastor. He was among the authors of the controversial resolution adopted by the Presbyterian General Assembly.
The Rev. J.C. Austin, senior pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, moderates the discussion.
