The best-selling author, musician and screenwriter James McBride comes to Fifth Avenue on Thursday, Nov. 3, to deliver the fifth-annual Anita and Antonio Gotto Lecture. In anticipation of McBride’s appearance, we are forming book groups to read and discuss McBride’s latest novel, Deacon King Kong, a compelling story of race, class and faith set in 1960s Brooklyn.

The book groups will bring together Fifth Avenue readers with friends from First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica, Queens. First Presbyterian Jamaica is co-hosting the Gotto lecture this year.

Book groups meet on Zoom on three consecutive Thursday evenings, Oct. 6, 13 and 20.
