The Long View: Living Faithfully Among the Beasts - Winter Sermon Series

Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church's 2025 Winter Sermon Series

The book of Daniel is, without a doubt, one of the most unusual parts of the Bible. It is written in two different ancient languages (Hebrew and Aramaic). It tells some pretty famous “Sunday School” stories: Daniel is thrown into a lion’s den! And, at the same time, it records some of the wildest (and most unnerving) dreams in the Good Book.

After this I saw in the visions by night a fourth beast, terrifying and dreadful and exceedingly strong. It had great iron teeth and was devouring, breaking in pieces, and stamping what was left with its feet.  –Daniel 7:7

These famous stories and wild visions take place against the backdrop of the Babylonian exile—a time when many Hebrew people were carried off to live as slaves in a foreign land and faced the challenge of staying true their faith in a strange place.

Join us this winter as we think together about faithful living in challenging circumstances.
