Ancestral Voices: A Staged Reading
Fifth Avenue’s Theatre Fellowship presents a staged reading of A.R. Gurney’s 1999 play, Ancestral Voices, by first-time director Kathy Henderson. Tickets are complimentary for Fifth Avenue members and friends, but reservations are requested.
Variety wrote that the play “takes the audience on a sweetly told journey back to a time and place (Buffalo, New York, in the 1940s) where divorce could still be scandalous.” Playwright A.R. Gurney, nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for his 1988 play Love Letters, wrote more than 60 plays during his extensive theatrical career.
This performance, produced by Janet Luhrs, is part of a series of three staged readings by the Theatre Fellowship on three consecutive days. Its “Laughter and Tears” weekend also includes performances of Robert Harling’s Steel Magnolias on Friday evening, Nov. 11, and Noël Coward’s Waiting in the Wings on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 13.
