Steel Magnolias: A Staged Reading
Fifth Avenue’s Theatre Fellowship presents a staged reading of Robert Harling’s 1987 play, Steel Magnolias. Tickets are complimentary for Fifth Avenue members and friends, but reservations are requested.
Steel Magnolias is a comedy-drama about the bond among a group of Southern women in northwest Louisiana. Harling based the story on his experience with his sister’s death. The Theatre Fellowship mounted a full production of the play, directed by Margo Martindale and the late Bob Brennan, in 2003. Martindale appeared in the original Off-Broadway production.
This performance is part of a series of three staged readings by the Theatre Fellowship on three consecutive days. Its “Laughter and Tears” weekend also includes performances of A.R. Gurney’s Ancestral Voices on Saturday evening, Nov. 12, and Noël Coward’s Waiting in the Wings on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 13.
